Come this Sunday, March 8 at a 11 AM and sing with the NYC Seed Group and Mario Biagini of The Open Program of the Workcenter of Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards at the Sunday service of  West-Park Presbyterian Church, who generously hosts our work in NYC and our Open Choirs! As part of the national “Big Read” event, West-Park Presbyterian Church will be serving as one of the community sites for this event sponsored nationally by the National Endowment for the Arts and locally by Goddard-Riverside and the New York Public Library. This year’s book for “1 Book 1 Community” is by Dinaw Mengestu. While the book is from an Ethiopian immigrant, it opens up a much broader conversation about the experiences of immigration.  We will be having a book discussion on Monday, February 16th at 7PM.  West-Park Presbyterian Church has received 4 free books — the first 4 to call the office at 212.362.4890 can have them …more to come….!!!!!

WEST PARK PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH TO OFFER HOLIDAY CONCERT SERIES
This holiday season, West Park Presbyterian Church will be presenting a series of concerts and performances at their historic landmark church building on West 86th St. and Amsterdam Ave.
The concerts will be held in conjunction with “Awakening,” a series exploring the intersection of ethics and esthetics, beauty and justice. The series begins Sunday, November 23rd at 10:30 am with a concert/service featuring the music of  Thomas Carlo Bo based on the poetry of Jake Schneider.
Two world premiers will be presented as part of the series; Prophecy from a Refrigerator Box, a Tone poem for Baritone and Jazz trio and Anesthesia a collective meditation for Baritone, Jazz trio and Congregation. Performing will be Thomas Carlo Bo, piano;  Roland Burkes ,baritone; Josh November, bass and Jon Di fiore – Drums.
Also scheduled is Stephanie Johnstone, composer/lyricist. Her performance on Sunday, December 7th will provide concert-goers with a “music-drenched, highly collaborative theater experience”. On December 21 the highly acclaimed Dzieci Theatre will present a “Fool’s Mass”. Curating the series and leading music for worship will be Jeremy Mage, Grammy winning multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, producer and composer.

AND NOW….This weekend is the PEOPLE’S CLIMATE MARCH which promises to be one of the biggest marches in New York City in years…and as fitting with its tradition and legacy, West-Park will be doing it’s part and helping as we can…

Here’s what’s happening….

Sunday will be an exciting day….we will be welcoming 3 buses from Columbus, Ohio who will be dropping off their marchers at West-Park. They will include marchers from the Sierra Club and Faith Based Community Organizations. Please come and welcome our out of town guests….

SOOO here’s our plan...

9-9:30 AM Welcome, fellowship and light refreshments…
9:30-10:30 AM West-Park prayers, reflection and music….
10:30 AM We leave to go to the Faith Communities meeting point at 58th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues….(enter on 9th…) Multifaith worship and invocation 11AM-12:30 PM
12:30 PM step off for the march…

This will be an opportunity to experience what Abraham Joshua Heschel, on the march from Selma to Montgomery, described as “praying with your feet….”

Join us Sunday at 930am for a light breakfast, celebration and fellowship at the West Park People’s Climate March Rally. We will have guest speakers, fellowship, and music to get you ready for a historic day marching and celebrating our commitment to saving our climate.

West Park is thrilled announce a 50th anniversary commemoration of the Freedom Summer and Goodman, Chaney, and Schwerner, Freedom Summer: The Next Generation, on June 9th at 7 pm. The evening, presented in partnership with The Center at West Park and in cooperation with the Andrew Goodman Foundation, will focus on what we can learn from the summer of 1964 and the communities that nurtured Goodman, Chaney, and Schwerner to guide our struggles for a more inclusive society today. The Rev. Dr. James A. Forbes, Jr. will deliver the keynote address, and Linda Sarsour, Simran Jeet Singh, and Stosh Cotler, will offer responses and reflections. Our friend and local singer-songwriter Jeremy Mage will be curating a series of songs from the Freedom Summer as well.
